There's big news for Daria fans as previously announced spin-off Jodie has made some huge leaps forward.

A spin-off will now be an animated film rather than a series, as originally announced.

But that's not all as the main cast, who will be joining the previously-announced Tracee Ellis Ross (who will voice Jodie), has been announced.

Jodie will follow the Daria character after she graduates from college and goes to work as an intern for the prestigious tech firm, Firstfinity.

The Good Place's William Jackson Harper will play Mack, from the original Daria series, described as Jodie's 'witty and supportive high school sweetheart'.

The Flight Attendant's Zosia Mamet will play Greta, a 'beachy-waved, self-proclaimed empath and Jodie's fellow intern at Firstfinity'.

Another returning character from the original Daria series is cheerleader Britney who is now an influencer at FirstFinity. She will be voiced by MADtv's Arden Myrin.

Jodie will be written by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's Grace Edwards, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Ellis Ross and Ashley Kohler of Awesome Inc. MTV Entertainment Studios produces.

The Daria spin-off was first announced in 2018 with the working titled Daria & Jodie. It was originally set to feature the two friends as they "take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race".

Then, in 2019, it was announced that the show would now be titled Jodie with Ellis Ross voicing the lead character.

Speaking at the time of the announcement, Ellis Ross said: "I am thrilled to bring this project to life with MTV, both as executive producer and by voicing Jodie's character. Being able to give voice to fresh, feminist and unexplored stories of young women excites me.

"Jodie will be the first adult animated show in almost 20 years that will star a black woman. It will be a smart, funny workplace comedy full of commentary about everything from gentrification to sex to tech to call-out culture."
