Worlds of DC movie Blue Beetle will unleash Susan Sarandon in villain mode.
Her role as Victoria Kord – created specifically for this project – previously fell into Sharon Stone's lap, but now TheWrap confirms that the Oscar-winning actress (known for turns in Dead Man Walking, Friends and Thelma & Louise) is instead bringing her to life.
As for Victoria's link to the comic book universe, the name that jumps out straight away is Ted Kord, the second incarnation of the eponymous superhero.

Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as Jaime Reyes, a teenager from Texas suddenly granted extraordinary powers when an alien scarab beetle attaches itself to him.
Addressing his groundbreaking casting as the first Latino lead in superhero movie back in August 2021, the actor told Variety: "The only thing that is on my mind right now is just the fact that he's Latino. I have so much pride in getting to be a part of this project with Angel [Manuel Soto, director], someone like him.
"I think it's so important, and I don't want to stand on the soapbox for too long but representation is so important."
The 20-year-old was keen to beef up for the gig too, explaining: "Luckily I have a background in martial arts and training in that kind of realm but this is a whole different game, this is like the big boys, so I'm ready to pack on a couple pounds and hit the gym."

Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans MC) is playing Carapax the Indestructible Man in this one, while George Lopez (The Tax Collector) appears as Uncle Rudy Reyes; Elpidia Carrillo (Cabinet of Curiosities) is Rocio Reyes and Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories) is Milagros Reyes.
Blue Beetle flies into US cinemas on August 18, 2023.
