Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hasn't even been released yet, but it's already smashing records in a way that would make Star Lord proud.
The Marvel movie's director James Gunn has revealed on Twitter that the production has managed to snatch a new World Record thanks to the hard work of the film's makeup team.
"Just heard from our makeup folks at @LegacyEffects that yesterday #GotGVol3 officially passed the World Record for 'the most makeup appliances created for a single production' (surpassing The Grinch)," he wrote.
"Congrats, guys! Thanks for keeping practical effects alive!"

The official Guinness World Records Twitter account has since replied to say: "We've never had a record for this before but we'd love to know some more..."

The previous Guardians movies have already featured a number of characters covered in dramatic makeup, from Gamora and Nebula to Yondu and Drax, and it sounds like we can expect even more epic transformations in the third chapter of the saga.
We already know that the golden-skinned Sovereign will be playing a part in Vol 3, with Maze Runner and Black Mirror actor Will Poulter having been cast as the powerful artificial being Adam Warlock.
Adam was created by the Sovereign High Priestess Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) to destroy the Guardians following the events of Vol 2, in which Ayesha was betrayed by the gang when Rocket stole some Anulax Batteries from her, before the Guardians shot down all of the attack ships that the Sovereign sent after them.
Gunn has confirmed that Vol 3 will be the final time that we see this particular team of heroes together, teasing that the movie will be "so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be".
He added: "I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That's always a little bit scary, [but] I'm doing my best."
Gamora star Zoe Saldaña has also dropped some hints about what we can expect from the film, teasing that fans will be treated to "a beautiful story, that's making us emotional even as we shoot it".
Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1 and vol 2 are available now. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is coming to Disney+ later this year, and then Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 arrives on May 5, 2023.
