Arrow star Katie Cassidy reveals big career change for new movie

Arrow star Katie Cassidy will soon be making her feature film directorial debut, as she has been confirmed to be helming new comedy movie Daddy ISSUES.

Cassidy is heavily involved in the project, as she has also written the script alongside Maria Bertrand and Meg McCaig and is lined up to produce and star in the movie too.

Deadline describes Daddy ISSUES as "a coming-of-age story set in Los Angeles about three adult women who should have already grown the f**k up, but can't seem to escape the relationship dysfunction they learned from their fathers".

The movie is due to begin production in Los Angeles and Boston this autumn.

Cassidy is best known for her Arrowverse roles as Laurel Lance / Black Canary / Black Siren, who she played across Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

She has also starred in Gossip Girl as Juliet Sharp and in Supernatural as Ruby, while she has appeared in movies including I Love Us and Agent Game.

The actress revealed in 2020 that she'd love to play a role in the Worlds of DC, saying that she would like to play Catwoman or The Joker, claiming that she thinks she would "make a pretty good Joker".

Cassidy shared in 2020 that she was feeling "confident" that network The CW would pick up an Arrowverse spin-off series called Green Arrow and the Canaries, which would have starred herself as Laurel, Katherine McNamara as Mia Queen and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake.

"If there was ever a time for a three-hander, all-female badass show, now is the time! So I'm not worried. I'm feeling pretty good about it," she said at the time.

Unfortunately, the show didn't end up moving forward, with former Arrowverse showrunner Marc Guggenheim confirming in January 2021 that "the decision was made back during the start of the pandemic (which, I believe, was the deciding factor)".
