Masters of the Universe live-action remake cast, plot, and everything else you need to know

Another day, another remake. This time from the creative brothers behind the recent comedy caper The Lost City.

The Masters of the Universe remake has been in development hell for a long time. But now the movie has a home and a directing duo, which means it won't be long until He-Man and the rest of the universe-saving superheroes are on our screens in live-action form.

Here's what we know so far about Masters of the Universe and everything that's changed since the remake was initially developed.

Masters of the Universe cast: Who is playing He-Man in the Masters of the Universe remake?

When Masters of the Universe was initially being cast, To All The Boys star Noah Centineo was tapped to play He-Man. But that was a long time ago (2019, to be precise) and much has changed since.

Now Prince Adam of Eternia, aka He-Man, is going to be played by Kyle Allen, who recently appeared in Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story as one of the Jets.

No other cast members have been announced. Behind the scenes, there have also been changes, with Aaron and Adam Nee now helming the remake. They've co-written the screenplay with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Wonder Woman 1984 scribe David Callaham.

Masters of the Universe potential release date: When will Masters of the Universe be out?

While initially in development at Sony, the remake is now heading to Netflix and looking to start filming in summer 2022. We can vaguely guess that it might be out late 2023, but every film takes as long as it takes and we can't be more accurate than that.

Masters of the Universe plot: What will Masters of the Universe be about?

We don't know! What we do know is that the Nee brothers are leaning into the original series' vibes for the film. Speaking to CBR, Aaron Nee said: "One thing that was important to us is that we are unapologetic that it is a wacky, wild property, that these characters are colourful and crazy and weird.

"We didn't want to try and tone that down or try to make it into Lord of the Rings and change everybody's names or something but instead embrace that that's one of the things that's singular about it and special about it.

"The other thing from the get-go, when we were asked to come in and pitch what our take on it would be, was that what was very important to us was tapping into why, as kids, those toys and those cartoons meant so much to us. So we really spent some time together just reflecting back on what that experience was like and the experience of empowerment and possibility that came from that, from playing with those figures."

Aaron added: "Yeah, and one of the things that we're super fortunate about is that we are not the only ones who are Masters of the Universe super fans. So there are lots of very talented people who just have been waiting their whole life to jump in and be a part of making that movie."
