American Horror Story's Taissa Farmiga offers update on The Nun 2

Taissa Farmiga has given an update on a follow up to 2018's horror-thriller The Nun.

The American Horror Story actress is known for her role as Sister Irene – opposite Bonnie Aarons as the Demon Nun and Demián Bichir as Father Burke – in the Conjuring Universe horror movie.

Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun centres on a priest and a novice who arrive in Romania to investigate the death of a young nun — but after an encounter with a supernatural force, peril lies in their midst.

After speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about her current TV role as Gladys Russell in The Gilded Age, the star also talked about a possible return to Sister Irene.

Despite little-to-no update on a sequel in recent years, Farmiga has indicated that there's been progress in the last year.

"There have definitely been whisperings and talks in the last year, but the pandemic has obviously affected everything including filming and such," the actress revealed.

"So I heard mentions of it back in the fall, maybe, and there were talks of potentially trying to see what my availability was."

She added: "But I also haven't seen a script. So I haven't heard anything definitive or anyone say, 'Hey, this is going.' So I don't know, but I would love to go back and visit Sister Irene. It's been years."

Elsewhere in the interview, Farmiga also responded to a statement about how her horror movie out-grossed her older sister Vera Farmiga's fellow Conjuring movies.

When asked whether she bragged about The Nun's stats – namely $363 million – at Thanksgiving, the younger Farmiga sister laughed: "I wouldn't dare, are you kidding me? I would get noogied into place.

"Vera would grab me and put me down. She'd wrestle me! I don't want to feel the wrath of the older sister," she added.
