Sir Kenneth Branagh's second Agatha Christie-inspired adaptation Death on the Nile, where he plays the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, was released last month to mixed reviews.

Earning only 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb and a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, fans seem to be at odds on if it is a good follow up to Murder on the Orient Express and whether it is a fitting tribute to the famous crime author.

Despite this reception, it seems as though the President of 20th Century Studios is already looking forward to (and actively planning) a sequel.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter for his 20th anniversary with the company, Steve Asbell was asked if there would be "more Agatha Christie adaptations."

He responded: "We have the Poirot franchise, we have other Christie stories. I love these films, I love Ken [Branagh].

"We have a third script written, by Michael Green, that is a pretty daring shift in genre and in tone. It's post-war Venice and an adaptation of one of the lesser-known novels. So I think you'll see the moustache again."

Even though the third film is an adaptation of another Christie novel, fans might be hard-pressed trying to figure out which one he means as the films don't always follow the books to the letter.

Death on the Nile cut several characters from the book, and changed at least one of the murder victims, so it's possible the third movie will also make key changes to throw us off the scent.

Branagh was joined in the film by a superstar cast, including Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Rose Leslie, Letitia Wright, Emma Mackey, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Tom Bateman, Sophie Okonedo and Annette Benning.

Death on the Nile is out now in cinemas.
