Garfield on 'sweet' texts from Spider-Man stars after Oscar nom

Andrew Garfield has revealed that he received "very sweet" messages from his Spider-Man: No Way Home co-stars Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire following his recent Oscar nomination.

The British actor landed his second Academy Award nod earlier this week when he was put forward for the Best Actor in a Leading Role accolade for his performance in Tick, Tick... Boom!, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

"I got a sweet, sweet text from Tom and Tobey," Garfield recalled while appearing as a guest on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast. "Very, very sweet. The Spider brothers are in action today and they've been very, very supportive. It's very, very lovely."

Picking up right where its predecessor Spider-Man: Far From Home left off, Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Peter Parker (Holland) try to undo the fact that Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealed his true identity to the world – and, you know, framed him as a murderer.

To do so, he enlists the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). But as the latter's spell goes awry, thanks to the teen's incessant chatting, the pair accidentally unleash a whole bunch o' baddies – and a couple of web-slinging goodies, too – from across the multiverse upon New York City.

Speaking about the possibility of reprising his Spider-Man role once again in the future, Garfield said on an earlier instalment of the podcast: "In terms of moving forward with the character, yes I am definitely open to that.

"Again it would have to be something very unique, very special and serving to an audience and in service of the character.

"There's something playful and unique and odd and unexpected to be done. I'm not sure what is but if we can figure it out it would be so much fun," the 38-year-old added. "I would love to continue working with Tobey [Maguire] and with Tom [Holland]. That kind of three brother dynamic is so juicy."
