Halle Berry reacts to being mistaken for Halle Bailey

Halle Berry has responded after a fan appeared to mistake her for The Little Mermaid actress Halle Bailey.

Of course, the Oscar-winner and Ariel actress' names aren't a million miles away from each other, though one person's case of wrong identity led Berry to issue a sweet reply.

When the fan tweeted that they "can't wait to see you under da sea", the Bruised actress expressed excitement to see her fellow Halle on the big screen.

"… wrong Halle lol," she tweeted. "I can't wait to see her too though!"

Berry previously praised the star, tweeting upon her Little Mermaid casting announcement in 2019: "In case you needed a reminder... Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can't wait to see what you do!"

Despite an unfortunate backlash in some quarters to the casting, original Ariel voice Jodi Benson defended Bailey's appearance.

"I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters," she said in 2019. "What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart and their spirit is what really counts. I think the most important thing for a film is to be able to tell a story.

"We need to be storytellers," Benson added. "And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the colour of our skin, our dialect, whether I'm tall or thin, whether I'm overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever colour, we really need to tell the story."

The Little Mermaid will be released in cinemas on May 26, 2023.
