Game of Thrones actress Jessica Henwick has explained why she went for The Matrix Resurrections over Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, saying that her decision was based on Marvel's wider plans.

Henwick told The Hollywood Reporter that she felt like accepting a role in Shang-Chi would mean killing the possibility of reprising her role as Colleen Wing from the Netflix/Marvel shows, which Daredevil and Kingpin actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio did this month.

"That definitely did come up in the discussion," she said. "If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed. It wasn't the main factor, but it definitely came up in conversation.

"I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don't know how likely that is.

"Charlie knew about that opportunity years ago. He already knew it was happening. I think I would have heard by now if there were any plans with Colleen."

While she'd love to play Colleen again, Henwick is happy to leave things as they are, saying: "I gave her a happy ending. She's happily living in New York with Misty [Simone Missick]. They're running their own business together. So she's good where she is as well."

Henwick previously explained that she didn't initially want to audition for the Matrix revival, but after she did, she was told that both studios asked to her to commit to auditioning for their film solely, even though neither guaranteed that she would land the part.

The Matrix Resurrection is out now in cinemas and on HBO Max in the US.
