The Matrix's Keanu Reeves gives update on potentially joining MCU

Keanu Reeves may be back in action as Neo for The Matrix Resurrections, but will the actor ever find himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Well, there's a chance.

Ahead of The Matrix 4's release tomorrow (December 22), Keanu opened up about the possibility of him joining the MCU in the future, after Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously revealed they had tried to get him on board.

Confirming that he had indeed met with Feige, Keanu told ComicBook.com that, sadly, they hadn't "yet" figured out which Marvel character would suit him. Nobody tell DC.

"We have met, and [Kevin Feige]'s a cool cat," Keanu teased. "But no, we don't have anything. [We've] gotta find something."

Keanu's comments come after Feige revealed that Marvel Studios approach the Matrix icon about "almost every film" they make. "I don't know when, or if ever he'll join the MCU," he said back in 2019. "But we very much want to figure out the right way to do it."

If Keanu's involvement in the MCU ever fails to materialise, we can at least take comfort in the actor being happy to star in a fifth Matrix movie – after all, who is Neo if not some kind of superhero?

Reflecting on the chances of another movie from writer and director Lana Wachowski, Keanu said recently: "I mean, if she wanted to do another story and wanted to include me I would be honoured and grateful.

"And I'd like to see what happens to Trinity and Neo – and the world."

The Matrix 4 is scheduled for release on December 22, 2021 in cinemas and on HBO Max in the US.
