The Matrix series hasn't been fully associated with credits scenes, although The Matrix Reloaded did end with a teaser trailer for Revolutions.

Since the end of the trilogy in 2003, the MCU has made credits scenes almost a given on the majority of blockbusters. And with The Matrix Resurrections skewering the current trends in cinema with meta commentary, does it extend past the credits?

If all you want to know is whether you should stick through the credits, the answer is yes. The Matrix Resurrections does have a credits scene and it comes at the very end of the credits, rather than midway through.

However, this isn't a scene that sets up The Matrix 5 and is a funny gag that is a throwback to an earlier sequence in the movie. So if you didn't stick through the credits, or just want to know what it's about, we're here to help.

Be warned though, some spoilers ahead for The Matrix Resurrections.

The Matrix Resurrections credits scene

The credits scene returns to the brainstorm session at Deus Machina where they're working on a sequel to The Matrix trilogy.

What to Read Next

In this new version of the Matrix, the events of the trilogy became a celebrated game series that Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) created. In the early part of the movie, Thomas is told that Warner Bros want a sequel to the trilogy rather than the new game he's working on.

We see a brainstorm session play out during the movie, and it's to this group that we return in the post-credits scene. One of them bemoans that not only are movies and games "dead", they believe "narrative is dead" too.

As a result, there's only one possible route to go. The Internet loves cat videos, so combine the two and release The Catrix. Something that actually happened and it's probably yet another Easter egg in the movie.

And that's it, that's the scene. Of course, the next Matrix movie could well be a cat remake for all we know, but despite us wanting to see that happen, it's just a fun scene that also mocks the growing importance of credits scenes.

Some fans might be mad they waited around for it, yet at least it means they would have seen the enormous amount of people that went into making the new movie.

The Matrix Resurrections is out now in cinemas and is also available to watch on HBO Max in the US.
