The Matrix's Keanu Reeves addresses future after Resurrections

The Matrix Resurrections isn't actually out in cinemas yet, but Keanu Reeves has already been pondering the possibility of a fifth movie.

Ahead of Resurrections' long-anticipated release, Keanu and Carrie-Anne Moss have offered their thoughts on another sequel – and as it turns out, they'd both like to see where Neo and Trinity's stories go next.

Speaking to Fandom, Keanu conceded that a fifth movie is very much "a Lana Wachowski question". If Wachowski is on board, though, so is Keanu.

"I mean, if she wanted to do another story and wanted to include me I would be honoured and grateful," the actor said. "And I'd like to see what happens to Trinity and Neo – and the world."

Carrie-Anne Moss agreed, adding: "Totally, of course... It would be amazing."

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II – who plays an alternate version of Morpheus in Resurrections – isn't quite as willing to commit to another, however.

"If I'm honest, I think that before I even get to those conversations, I just want this film to come out and to see how this film resonates with audiences," the Matrix newcomer said.

"In terms of where you go next, I think that would depend a lot on how it's received by the world, and how it's digested, and then to say, based on that, is there a need to continue on or did the film do what it was intended to do?"

Fortunately, based on the first reactions to Resurrections, we'd say a fifth movie would certainly be welcome among fans. Lana Wachowski, it's your move.

The Matrix 4 is scheduled for release on December 22, 2021 in cinemas and on HBO Max in the US.
