A classic fairytale gets a dark and scary makeover with the release of Snow White and the Huntsman this week. Twilight's Kristen Stewart leads the cast as the titular princess, who's exiled to a castle tower by her evil stepmother Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron).

Digital Spy sat down with Ray Winstone, Brian Gleeson, Johnny Harris and Nick Frost - who comprise four of the eight dwarves - and Lily Cole to discuss Rupert Sanders's fantasy blockbuster.

"I think it's a return to the source of the original material," Frost said. "The dwarves are there as a little bit of light comic relief, but apart from that I think it's going to be a very dark, eerie, bleak, frightening, creepy, exciting fairytale."

Winstone praised his co-star Stewart, saying that he was impressed by how quickly she adapted to working with the eight dwarves.

"It's not easy for her, you've got eight actors having a laugh playing guys that are dwarves. We all know one another, and to come into that circle of men and perform the way she did was fantastic. She's a great little actress," he said.

Snow White and the Huntsman opens in cinemas on May 30.
