Spider-Man star Tom Holland addresses Venom crossover possibility

Spider-Man star Tom Holland has teased the possibility of a crossover between his web-slinging hero and Tom Hardy's Venom.

Taking to Instagram today (October 1), the day that Venom: Let There Be Carnage opens in US cinemas, the actor shared the movie's poster and wrote: "Tonight's the night. Can't wait to see this. Congrats Andy Serkis, Tom Hardy and Sony Pictures."

"Are the rumours true," he added with a smirking face emoji to punctuate the question.

Those who have been on social media already today will probably know what the rumours in question are, but for those who haven't, beware spoilers.

While UK fans will have to wait another two weeks to see it with their own eyes, US moviegoers have reported that the Venom: Let There Be Carnage post-credits scene features some heavy implications about a crossover with the MCU's Spider-Man.

At the end of the movie, Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock has unveiled to the world his identity as Venom and is now on the run. They settle in a hotel room on a remote island; Venom tells Eddie he wants to show him another aspect of his powers.

After some flashes that are very reminiscent of the multiverse breaches we have seen in Loki, Eddie finds himself transported to a different hotel room where on the TV JK Simmons' J Jonah Jameson is unmasking Spider-Man as Peter Parker, just like we've seen at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Marvel fans are now starting to believe that, with the post-credits scene, Tom Holland's comment is but a confirmation that Hardy's character will make his MCU debut in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

Spider-Man: No Way Home already features characters from different universes (including villains from previous Spider-Man iterations with Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx's Electro). So seeing Venom in it would not be surprising.

However, Marvel actors are notoriously misleading with their clues, knowing just how much fans like to over-analyse everything, so we would tread carefully with this one.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage opens in cinemas on October 1 in the US and October 15 in the UK.
