Black Panther 2 casts Marvel's Ironheart star for crossover

Marvel's Ironheart still doesn't have a release date on Disney+, but star Dominique Thorne is already lined up for a crossover in Black Panther 2.

Disney announced the new Ironheart series back in December, with Marvel Studios revealing Dominique Thorne would play the titular role, following her acclaimed performances in Judas and the Black Messiah and If Beale Street Could Talk.

According to reports, Thorne will make her debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is slated for release on July 8, 2022. However, details of what the crossover entails are yet to be revealed.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told ComicBook.com: "She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series."

In the Marvel Comics, Williams is a teen prodigy who reverse-engineers Iron Man's suit to become unlikely superhero Ironheart. She even replaces Tony Stark for a brief period in the comics.

A number of exciting castings have been announced for the Black Panther sequel in recent months, including I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel and Winston Duke reprising his role of M'Baku.

There is also a Black Panther TV show planned for Disney+ in addition to the sequel. Danai Gurira has already been confirmed to be appearing as Okoye in the TV series, as well as the cinematic sequel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a release date of July 8, 2022. The first movie is streaming now on Disney+.
