The title has been revealed for the forthcoming Transformers movie at a virtual press event. The film, which has begun production, will be named Transformers: Rise of the Beast.
Directed by Grown-ish's Steven Caple Jr, Rise of the Beasts will be set in New York, mainly the Brooklyn area, and take place in 1994.
A press release revealed: "Returning to the action and spectacle that first captured moviegoers around the world 14 years ago with the original Transformers, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a '90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons."
On Twitter, Fandom's Eric Goldman shared more details including the film's plot.
The movie's main robot hero will be Optimus Prime, with Caple Jr saying he 'wanted to dig into him as a character more' and show him become the leader we know, before having a connection to Earth and humanity.
The main villain will be named Scourge, who has 'big clawed hands and smoking exhaust ports on shoulders,' according to Goldman. Scourge takes the symbols from his victims and fuses them onto his body as trophies.
