Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly been lined up to play Marvel star Mads Mikkelsen's role in the English-language remake of Oscar-winning drama Another Round.

Deadline reports that a fiercely-contested auction for the remake rights to Thomas Vinterberg's movie concluded with DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson's production company Appian Way winning the project, with Endeavor Content and Brad Weston's Makeready also involved in the bid.

The Wolf of Wall Street and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star DiCaprio will play the lead role – originally played by Doctor Strange actor Mikkelsen – in the remake. He will also be one of the movie's producers, with a writer currently being sought.

Director Vinterberg, who was nominated for the Best Director award at this year's Academy Awards for Another Round, will serve as one of the remake's executive producers.

Another Round has collected a host of trophies during the 2021 movie awards season, including the Best International Feature Film Oscar, the Best Film Not in the English Language BAFTA and the Best Film European Film Award.

The Danish movie, which is called Druk in its native language, tells the story of four middle-aged teachers working at a school in Copenhagen, who are all feeling bored and unfulfilled.

During a birthday dinner, the quartet decide to conduct an experiment in which they will keep their blood alcohol levels slightly raised at all times, in order to see if it helps them enjoy life more.

However, things get out of hand once the group decides to try binge drinking, with some of them fearing that they are descending into alcoholism.

Mikkelsen recently revealed that he actually got drunk for real in order to prepare for his role in Another Round, saying that he wanted to approach playing drunk as realistically as possible.

"We did a boot camp before we started shooting, and we tested out the exact levels, 0.5, 0.8, 0.1 and we tested out some of the scenes and we filmed the whole thing, we had a great time," he said.

"We're four guys, who know each other well, you've had a few shots before, it doesn't seem that odd. It's normal."
