With War Horse galloping quickly into view and The Adventures of Tintin already a big hit across Europe this year, Steven Spielberg is showing no signs of wanting to put his feet up and take it easy.

The filmmaker's 40-year career has seen him release 27 movies theatrically (including the TV-to-big screen release of Duel and the incoming War Horse), net four Academy Awards, mastermind two huge franchises (Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park), and pull in more than $8.5 billion in box office receipts.

Steven Spielberg is, perhaps, cinema's greatest populist director and the man who defined the modern blockbuster. He's versatile too - multiplex-fillers Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark are countered by critically-acclaimed dramas such as Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.
