Glenn Close has revealed that there was a particular scene in Air Force One that she refused to perform because she felt it wasn't true to her character.

The actress played Vice President Kathryn Bennett in the 1997 action thriller, which co-starred Harrison Ford as US President James Marshall.

Air Force One sees the President's plane hijacked by a group of terrorists while the President, his family and a number of staff are on board, while Bennett takes control of the situation in the White House.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Close said that she had "loved" playing the tough and level-headed Vice President, who remains loyal to the President throughout the film and refuses to make any sudden or risky decisions.

But she recalled one scene which was originally scripted in which Bennett broke down in tears while in talks which she refused to play, saying that she didn't believe her character would react that way.

"One thing I remember, they had a scene around that table where she broke down crying," Close said.

"And I said, 'I will not do that. I don't think that would happen. Not my vice president. My vice president would not break down into tears. She would step up to the challenge.' So they changed it. I loved playing that part."
