Disney's chief technical officer Andy Hendrickson has admitted that Alice in Wonderland's script was not very impressive.
Hendrickson told those in attendance at the Siggraph conference on Sunday that a well-written story simply was not key to the success of Alice in Wonderland, which took in over $1bn (£603m) in revenue.
"People say, 'It's all about the story'. When you're making tentpole films, bulls**t," Disney's animation chief said.
Hendrickson added of Alice in Wonderland: "The story isn't very good, but visual spectacle brought people in droves. And Johnny Depp didn't hurt."
Alice in Wonderland received mixed reviews from critics upon its 2010 release, but went on to become one of the top-grossing films of all-time.
The Tim Burton-directed movie would also win Academy Awards in the 'Best Achievement in Art Direction' and 'Best Achievement in Costume Design' categories.
