Netflix has tapped Detective Pikachu director Rob Letterman for an adaptation of video game Beyond Good & Evil.
The dystopian adventure game was originally released by Ubisoft in 2003 and follows a 25th century investigative reporter called Jade, who exposes a conspiracy which threatens her home planet after it is besieged by an alien army who may just be colluding with the planet's own military.
Deadline reports Beyond Good & Evil is in early development and will be adapted by the streaming service and Letterman, with plans to make a hybrid live-action/animated feature movie.
Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin are attached to the project as producers for Ubisoft Film & Television.
A sequel to the video game is also in the works, which means Netflix might just have another franchise on its hands.

Letterman has directed a string of popular films including Shark Tale, Goosebumps and Monster vs Aliens.
The Beyond Good and Evil announcement follows confirmation that Detective Pikachu will get a sequel, with Letterman previously explaining why he waited two years to use one particular Pokémon character in the film.
He previously told IGN: "It came to the point where I literally had to ask the President of the whole Pokemon Company, Ishihara-san.
"I gave him the whole pitch, and he started laughing, and he's like, 'okay, give it a shot'."
