Jared Leto's incarnation of the Joker hasn't been seen since Suicide Squad, and it seems many fans have little desire to see him return.

The Clown Prince of Crime is not due to appear in Harley Quinn spin-off Birds of Prey, and given the much more positive reception to Joaquin Phoenix's separate version of the character, it seems the DC universe has a bit of a Joker problem.

However, Digital Spy readers reckon that Leto shouldn't return as the Joker in the future, with 67% saying no (based off 1,531 votes).

While readers aren't especially keen on more of that incarnation, Leto himself has said he'd be up for reprising the role at some point.

"I would definitely play the Joker again," he said last year. "It all depends on the script and the circumstances as it always does."

While he won't be in Birds of Prey, it seems the movie will still be influenced by the iconic villain, with director Cathy Yan recently saying: "It's really Harley's story, as well as all of these women's stories.

"And in a way their stories kind of echo each other. So when our title includes The Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, that is essentially the story that she goes on.

"We find her basically without the Joker at the beginning of the film, and through the film she learns that she doesn't need anyone but herself.

"She doesn't necessarily make friends with the other women, but they come together, and through that they all sort of emancipate themselves throughout the film."
