Just like everyone else at the time, Jumanji star Karen Gillan thought it was a terrible idea to remake the beloved original.
Starring the late Robin Williams, the 1995 classic was (and still is) a treasured part of many people's childhoods, and the idea of doing anything at all to it seemed like sacrilege.
Karen herself was certainly of that opinion when she first heard they were doing a remake – but then she read the script.
"My initial reaction when I heard they were remaking Jumanji [was], 'Why would you do that to Jumanji? What are you going to do with one of my favourite childhood movies? Don’t ruin my childhood!'" she told Entertainment Weekly.
"I kind of had the same reaction as everyone else. And then I read the script, and that changed everything because I knew they'd done something inventive and original while still honouring the original. It was kind of the perfect blend."
The new Jumanji movies are actually reboot sequels to the original, rather than a full-on reboot, with the classic game board itself quite literally adapting to the times and evolving into a computer game.

In a slight twist, the players are sucked into the console where they then adopt avatars in the shape of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black.
At the end of the latest movie, however, there is a suggestion that the third film in the series could replicate the Robin Williams-led original in a fundamental way.
Jumanji: The Next Level is in cinemas now, while Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and the original film are available to watch on Netflix.
