One of the most intriguing aspects of Avengers: Endgame is that for all of Marvel's hype about it as the end of an era, the film also leaves many questions unanswered.
The recent home video release is helping to fill in at least some of the blanks, with viewers getting some answers for questions about Nebula, Gamora and Black Widow.
Another lingering question involves Captain America's (Chris Evans) journey through time to return the Infinity Stones to their proper places in the MCU.
While it is never referenced in the movie, his trek to Vormir to return the Soul Stone would potentially include an unexpected reunion with his most hated enemy — since the Red Skull (Ross Marquand) had been banished to the planet to become the Stonekeeper for all of eternity.
In the Avengers: Endgame commentary track (via ComicBook), co-director Anthony Russo questions co-writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on if Cap's visit to Vormir would definitely mean a reunion with his old foe.

"He would have to [see him]," McFeely answered, with Markus adding that they'd thought about this "many times" during the writing process.
The writers pointed out that the Stonekeeper would not necessarily have been freed from his endless duty on Vormir because someone had temporarily gained possession of the Soul Stone.
