Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, has been busy weaving a web of intrigue ahead of Far From Home's release next month – this time, about the film's potential villains.

As well as hinting at more action for Mysterio, Holland revealed at a recent promotional event exactly what leads Spidey and his "new best friend" to team up.

"Mysterio in this movie is actually my new best friend," Tom explains in a clip shared on Twitter.

"We team up together to fight these elemental creatures because when Thanos snapped his fingers, these creatures came through the dimensional rift."

This isn't the first time Far From Home has teased its elemental villains – director Jon Watts has also explained his reason for bringing B-list baddies to the big screen.

What to Read Next

"There's so many Spider-Man villains from the rogues gallery that I wanted to dig a little bit deeper than what anyone might be expecting," he said.

"Villains like Hydro-Man and Molten Man, who may not be on the highest list. But that opened up such amazing visual possibilities and poses really dangerous challenges for Spider-Man."

Of course, while Hydro-Man and Molten Man might literally be elemental, they're not to be confused with The Elementals, a team of four extra-dimensional humanoids from Marvel Comics.

Mind you, if Thanos' game-changing snap can open up the multiverse, there's every chance we could soon be seeing Hydron, Magnum, Hellfire, and Zephyr doing their thing.

Spider-Man: Far from Home will be released on July 2. Spider-Man: Homecoming is out now on Digital Download, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
