The Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss has teased that she's set to star in a gender-swapped reboot of The Invisible Man.

It was reported earlier this month that Elisabeth was in early negotiations for the role, but now it seems the actress has given the biggest indication yet that she'll be joining Universal Pictures' Dark Universe.

Speaking to BuzzFeed in an interview that's set to air on Facebook Watch next month, the actress revealed, well, she actually wasn't allowed to reveal much at all, which is seemingly a sure sign she's been sworn to secrecy.

"I would say that I can't talk about it. I can't really talk about it, but I would say that it's – I can't say anything about it," she said.

So it's now looking like Johnny Depp is definitely out of the picture, having initially been linked to the project.

Depp was originally announced as part of the studio's line-up for its horror franchise, but earlier this year it was reported that the Invisible Man film would not feature the actor as the direction has changed.

It's all part of Universal's new plans following the box office disappointment of The Mummy reboot with Tom Cruise. Originally, Universal wanted a shared universe with individual monster movies building up to some sort of team-up event, but audiences weren't too interested so it was back to the drawing board.

In January this year, The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman admitted that he wasn't happy with the movie and added that he's "no longer involved" with whatever Universal has got planned.

The Invisible Man movie lost its writer in January last year with Ed Solomon telling Digital Spy that he and Universal "had a different idea of what the movie was gonna be".

Leigh Whannell, writer and Insidious: Chapter 3 director, was then brought on to pen and helm the project.
