Johnny Depp has described his Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton as his "favourite mad person".
Depp, who has worked with Burton on seven feature films ranging from Edward Scissorhands to Sweeney Todd, told journalists at Alice's UK press conference that Burton has a way of making his madness work.
"My favourite mad person in the world? Tim," Depp said. "He is a mad person on some level but it's a madness that works for him obviously. At the risk of embarrassing him, I've always admired him for his commitment to his vision and the impossibility of compromise.
"He does exactly what he wants in his own very unique way. As far as I'm concerned he's one of the only true artists working in cinema, a real auteur. They're non-existent at this point. Tim is my favourite mad person."
Depp and Burton will work together again this year for an eighth feature, a big screen spin on supernatural '60s soap Dark Shadows.
