Deepika Padukone has spoken about her battle with depression with TV host Barkha Dutt.

The Bollywood star said that she wanted to take part in NDTV's Let's Talk Depression programme to help others who may be going through the same experience.

"I am doing this because it's been so hard for me that I don't want anyone else to go through it," Padukone explained.

"I think for me the scariest was not understanding why it was happening or where it was coming from, because there was not one reason or cause."

Appearing on the show with her mother Ujjala Padukone and psychiatrists Dr Shyam Bhatt and Dr Anna Chandy, the actor spoke about how her feelings of depression began during a very successful period in her career.

Since going public with her personal battle with anxiety and depression, Padukone said that the response had been positive.
