Ekta Kapoor has said that Udta Punjab features "fantastic talent" in its cast.
The Balaji Motion Pictures producer has partnered with Phantom Films on the Shahid Kapoor movie.
The TV and film producer said: "Udta Punjab is one film I'm most excited about.
"I've always admired the work Phantom does and collaborating with them on a project that boasts of such fantastic talent is exciting."
The movie also stars Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Punjabi actor Daljit Dosanj, who will be making his Bollywood debut.
Vikramditya Motwane from Phantom Films added: "Balaji were partners with us on our very first Phantom production.

The project centres around the issue of drug abuse in the Indian state of Punjab.
