Based on Professor Gyan Prakash's book Bombay Fables, the film directed by Anurag Kashyap is set in '60s Bombay.
The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as cage-fighter Johnny Balraj, while Karan Johar makes his debut as a villain in a full length role.
The director-producer plays a Parsi businessman named Kaizad Khambatta in the film. Anushka Sharma plays a club singer named Rosie in the movie.
