Farhan Akhtar's Rock On 2 may be shot in India's North East region.
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani met with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to discuss filming the sequel in the state.
"We start shooting for Rock On 2 in Mumbai before we move someplace scenic with lots of mountains for six-seven weeks," Sidhwani told Mumbai Mirror.
"The script can lend itself to any picturesque place away from Mumbai and right now Shillong is a hot favourite. I'll push for it but eventually the logistics have to work out."
Sidhwani added that it made sense to shoot in a city which already has the reputation of being India's rock capital.
Shraddha Kapoor was recently announced as the main female role in the follow up to the 2008 release.
