Ranveer Singh has said that he had to change his surname to become commercial.
The 28-year-old Lootera actor's real surname name is Bhavnani.
He told The Times of India: "It's too long, too many syllables. Ranveer 'Singh' is short, crisp and can stay in your memory easily. Ran-veer-Singh-Bhav-nani is too long. It's not a saleable commodity."
The star has said that his first goal after having break-out box office success in Band Baaja Baaraat was to change his image.
"I want to have a wide range and frankly for me the most important thing was to break the image of 'Bittoo Sharma'. People started calling me the next big thing after Band Baaja Baaraat but I don't take such things seriously," he commented.
