John Abraham's Rocky Handsome will get rid of the conventional female lead.
The actor and film producer was last seen in the political thriller Madras Cafe, his follow-up production to Vicky Donor.
Director Nishikant Kamat told Apunkachoice: "Apart from John Abraham there is one other pivotal character, a male associate to John's character. And they share very close bonding. But no leading lady, not even for the songs.
"I do understand numbers. I know box office figures are important. And Rocky Handsome is my most expensive film to date. But I can't be looking anxiously over my shoulder every time I write a script."
Khan admitted last year that he felt he had to prove himself to critics because of his modelling background.
He will also be seen later this year reuniting with Abhishek Bachchan for the sequel to Dostana.
