Kareena Kapoor will reportedly take on the lead female role in Ajay Devgan's follow-up to Singham.
She will be playing a Maharashtrian girl in the police drama, according to Apunkachoice.
The site claims that the role was especially fleshed out for her after initially being too small to cast an A-list actor.
Last year, the 32-year-old claimed that she wanted to take on more creatively demanding roles after being a box office star.
She said: "As a commercial actress, I've done it all. Now I'd like to balance out the more massy stuff with something more unconventional.
"I would like to work with Aanand Rai, Sudhir Mishra, Dibakar Banerjee and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, and I'm working towards it."
The two actors appeared together in Prakash Jha's political corruption drama Satyagraha in 2013.
