Jon Hamm is not sure about a Mad Men spinoff – but does think that Sally Draper is most deserving of her own show.

The now-teenage daughter of Don Draper was played by Kiernan Shipka throughout seven seasons, and had a key role in Sunday's series finale.

Open thread: What did you think of Mad Men's finale?

Speaking at the Television Academy's 'Farewell to Mad Men' event ahead of the transmission of 'Person to Person', Hamm was asked about the possibility of a Mad Men spinoff or prequel series.

"I think a big part of what I really appreciate about this show is that, when people are crying when they watched [Sunday's] episode, is that the story is complete," he explained.

"So I think the idea of a spinoff, or a prequel, or an origin story, or whatever longer time to spend with these characters, I think it would be less fulfilling somehow."

What to Read Next

Hamm then made it clear that he does actually have ideas for a spinoff if creator Matthew Weiner is ever in need.

"We would want to watch Sally grow up. Move through the '70s and turn into a rock star and turn into Joan Jett or something," he joked.

"Ride a motorcycle and kill a guy. Make a bunch of money and then become Oliver Stone in the '80s. Date Kurt Cobain in the '90s. She's just a touchstone for every generation. Yeah, I'd watch that show. Sally Through the Decades."

Weiner has previously denied that he has any interest in reviving Mad Men for a spinoff or prequel of some kind.

Mad Men's season finale 'Person to Person' has thus far drawn a mixed response from critics.
