We admirers of the dark arts have been waiting for a Charmed reboot for over a decade. It looks as if our resurrection spell has finally worked...
The CW has just ordered a pilot script for a new Charmed TV series, which TVLine reports will basically function as a "prequel-ish" revamp of the story of the magical Halliwell sisters set in a spooky '70s-era New England town.
According to early casting breakdowns, it doesn't look like the new Charmed will feature those three original Halliwells - played memorably by Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano.
However, one of the new witches, described as being "cheerful, curvy, wholesome and All-American", is called Paige, maybe not-so-coincidentally the same name of the Halliwells' half-sister Paige Matthews (Rose McGowan).
This Paige is apparently on the hunt for a husband in hopes of living out her fantasy as a wife and mother. Yeah, that doesn't exactly sound like the wild child we remember from the original Charmed.
The other two witches - Tina and Annie - are described as being a "whip-smart" African-American doctor capable of making the tough decisions and a fiery no-nonsense Caucasian wicca.

Judging by their tweets today (January 5), it looks as if Charmed originals Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano won't be involved in this reboot... at least at this point point.
"We wish them well," Holly tweeted, with Alyssa adding: "#Charmed fans! There are no fans like you. You're the best of the best."
When news first broke earlier this year that CBS - a sister network for The CW - was working on the latest in a string of Charmed reboot attempts, Alyssa Milano broke the bad news that the original cast weren't involved.
"Charmed fans!" she tweeted in May. "Nothing has been confirmed. CBS is developing a reboot without the original cast. That's all I know for sure.
"With all the reunion shows it seems like #charmed would be a great choice since we have the most loyal and best fans ever. But...
"I would imagine until CBS makes a decision on their reboot a true reunion type of show will not be happening due to CBS owning the rights."
The creative team behind the new Charmed will be led by producer Jennie Snyder Urman, who has previously worked on Jane the Virgin and Gilmore Girls.
Charmed originally aired on The CW's forerunner The WB from 1998 to 2006, and maintains an intensely loyal fan following to this day.
Don't forget to vote for your favourite TV shows in this year's National Television Awards! Shortlist voting closes at 12 midday on Wednesday, January 25.
