Squirrel Girl fans, rejoice! It looks as though Marvel's nuttiest heroine will be making her screen debut after all.

OK, so it's not the standalone Squirrel Girl movie we've all been pining for - but it might actually be better for that.

Marvel and ABC Studios are working on a 30-minute comedy series centred on the New Warriors - and Squirrel Girl's involved, according to TVLine.

Although Doreen Green is not technically a member of the New Warriors, you'd be hard pressed to find a better superhero on your team.

Not only can she talk to squirrels (something we all wish for), but she also possesses super speed and agility. Oh, and she's basically undefeatable - having taken out both Doctor Doom and Thanos.

While this is all good news for fans of niche (and daft) superheroes, it's bad news for Anna Kendrick.

The actress recently revealed that she would go nuts for the role: "My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her].

"I don't know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!"

Where are all Marvel's TV shows at right now? On hiatus, axed or undecided

Meanwhile, in other Marvel TV news, Luke Cage - employer of Doreen Green in the comics - is gearing up for his solo Netflix series, which is due to start streaming on September 30.
