Chris Evans has hit out at "insider" reports that he has behaved unprofessionally on the set of Top Gear.

The BBC show's new host has been subject to allegations of controlling behaviour on set, notably surrounding the exit of producer Lisa Clark. The BBC has denied these claims.

However, in a car column for the Daily Mail, he addressed the accusations himself head on.

"The seemingly inexhaustible stream of 'insider' stories keeps on coming, my most recent favourite being about how 'unprofessional' I have been behaving 'on set,'" he wrote.

"Just a small point here. We don't actually have a set yet for me to misbehave on. Not only has it not been built, but we have only just signed off the final design.

"Once it is built, however, I promise I will try not to let the 'insider' down."

Evans added that he was channelling his "inner creative rage at this very moment", though we're not entirely sure what he means by that.

Top Gear recently got into trouble for filming around the Cenotaph war memorial in Central London, with the show confirming that the footage would not be in the final episode.
