Despite watching through a flood of tears, you'd be hard pushed to forget Nadiya Hussain's rousing victory speech after she was crowned winner of The Great British Bake Off last year.

One person who doesn't remember a thing, however, is Nadiya herself. We'll let her off, though, as it was clearly a very emotional time (for all of us).

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Nadiya revealed that, no, of course she "didn't rehearse" the speech, whilst also recognising that she was probably "the editor's nightmare".

"I cried for 30 minutes before saying anything," she admitted.

"I actually can't remember the moment I won. All I remember is staring at my shoes and thinking that they needed to go in the washing machine because they were covered in icing sugar.

"I really didn't think I would get to the final, let alone win," she added.

Nadiya might well appear to be a lover of humble pie, but she shouldn't doubt herself so much. Her recent show The Chronicles of Nadiya was a total hit with viewers.

Does that mean she'll be filling any Mary, Mel or Sue-shaped gaps when Bake Off moves to C4? Unfortunately not, but she has promised she'll be a continuing presence on our screens.

"I believe that making [the BBC] my home gives me the scope to work across such a unique range of diverse and interesting projects," she recently revealed.

"I'm delighted to announce that I will continue making films for The One Show as well as developing other exciting programme ideas."

The Graham Norton Show airs at 10.35pm tonight (December 9) on BBC One.
