Emmerdale star Michael Parr has hinted at a furious reaction from Ross Barton when he eventually finds out the full truth about his acid attack.

Ross's life was turned upside-down this month when drug dealer Simon McManus threw acid in his face, mistaking him for Joe Tate.

The heartbreaking aftermath has seen Debbie Dingle try her best to support Ross, but viewers know that she was partly responsible as she'd hired Simon to take revenge on Joe – unaware that acid would be used.

Speaking fully about the storyline for the first time, Michael has now discussed how Ross might react when he discovers Debbie's involvement.

Michael explained: "I can't imagine he's going to be too pleased! I suppose it would have been easier for Ross to take if Debbie had just come forward and told him straight away.

"But she's been lying and coming to him saying that he's going to be okay. If she'd just come to him and told the truth, it might have been able to take the sting off it.

"Obviously Ross would have still reacted badly, but not as badly as he would now that she's been by his side afterwards.

"Debbie is also messing with Ross's heart, because he thinks her being there is because there are still feelings there. So it's kind of leading him on as well."

Michael also discussed the challenges of portraying the acid attack storyline, which has earned him widespread praise from Emmerdale fans over the past few weeks.

He said: "It's just trying to do it justice, really. I'm telling real people's stories. Not just acid attack victims, but anyone who's been physically scarred in an attack or an accident.

"Everybody recognises you by your face. We live in a bit of a materialistic world at the moment, where it's all about image.

"We've spoken to victims, but I don't want to play Ross as just depressed and sad all the time, because I know there will be moments of lightness too. He's a well-rounded character.

"If the audience just feel sorry for you all the time, I'm not doing my job right. I've got to play this character as realistically as possible and I'm just nervous about doing it justice for the people who've gone through it."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
