Following her departure from EastEnders this New Year, Roxy Mitchell fans will be pleased to know Rita Simons won't be out of a job for too long, as she's already bagged her next role.

The 39-year-old actress will play Paulette in the musical theatre production of Legally Blonde next year, the Daily Mail reports.

The role was memorably played by Jennifer Coolidge in the 2001 movie, but we can totally see Rita making this role her own.

Rita will be starring in the touring version of the musical for seven months from next September.

The production will kick off in Bromley towards the end of 2017 and will tour the UK, stopping off at theatres in High Wycombe, Bristol and Woking among other major venues until April 2018.

Rita played Roxy Mitchell on EastEnders for nine years, before announcing she would be leaving the soap this December alongside her on-screen sister Ronnie Mitchell.

Details on the siblings' departure are being kept tightly under wraps for the time being, although it's strongly suspected that they will be killed off.

It's rumoured the sisters will meet their grisly end together in the New Year after drowning in a swimming pool following Ronnie's wedding to Jack Branning, a fate that looks more likely considering the nature of these pictures snapped during filming of the soap this week.

But EastEnders has revealed it's filming multiple endings for Roxy and Ronnie - so this might just be one of many different scenarios in the mix.

Eastenders airs weekdays on BBC One.
