Coronation Street fans were left disgusted by the shocking racist comments directed towards mechanic Luke Britton in last night's episode (January 1).

The ITV soap is currently exploring a controversial racism storyline that has seen Luke and his girlfriend Alya Nazir targeted by the Underworld's nasty new clients.

Last night's scenes saw businessmen Justin and Dale Parker continue to make several racist comments towards Alya, before turning their attention to her boyfriend Luke.

Luke lost his temper with the pair after one sneered: "I hope it starts raining flaming bleach," with the other saying: "Clear off back to the jungle."

But it wasn't just Luke that was left outraged by the pair's deplorable racist comments, as viewers at home were left equally furious with the brothers.

Sair Khan –who plays Alya - has confirmed that she was actually behind the soap's decision to explore racism with this storyline which will continue to play out over the rest of the week.
