The adorable nocturnal animal was snapped on the Japanese island of Hokkaido by Masatsugu Ohashi.

"The squirrels make this tree a nest every year when it is winter," said Masatsugu. "It is early morning and in the evening they become active.
"They are almost always in the nest, so chances of photographing them in the daytime are difficult."
The flying squirrel are known for their ability to glide from tree to tree to escape predators by stretching their limbs.
