Kanye West will take his place among pop music royalty at the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend.
The 'New Slaves' rapper has been selected as this year's recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, given to an artist at the peak of their influence.
MTV has selected the hip-hop icon to follow in the footsteps of previous winners David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, U2 and Beyoncé in honour of his "continued impact on music, art, fashion, and culture".
West is a two-time Video Music Award winner, having most famously won in the Best Male Video category for 'Jesus Walks' back in 2005.
This year's MTV VMAs will be hosted by Miley Cyrus, who is sure to cause controversy on the stage of the Microsoft Theater in LA.
There will be an exclusive live performance from The Weeknd on the main telecast, while Nick Jonas and Walk the Moon are playing the pre-show.
