It's been tough going lately if you are a One Direction fan, and it's about to get a bit tougher: Simon Cowell has declared he is happy for them to take a break.

Although they haven't announced a hiatus, Cowell said he would support them.

He said in an interview with The Sun: "In terms of the band, they've got enough hits now, they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do.

"Then I hope they'll have a little bit of time apart and want to get back together again.

"It's a fun job, but it's absolutely their decision."

He also commented on former One Direction member Zayn Malik's possible move from his SyCo label to Sony in the future.

Cowell said he signed One Direction as a group and his main responsibility is to them.

"It also means no one has any nerves about whether we're working harder on them or him," he explained.
