Westworld actress Shannon Woodward is transferring her talents to video games, having joined The Last of Us Part II.

The star, who plays Elsie on the HBO show, said she was "embarrassingly excited" to join the new game.

"I am embarrassingly over-excited here because I'm peaking," she tweeted yesterday (April 7). "@Neil_Druckmann is letting me act in The Last Of Us:Part II."

And considering the tweet was accompanied by a selfie of the pair and Shannon in a motion-capture suit, you know it's true.

However, it is unclear what role Woodward will be playing in the much-anticipated sequel to 2013's acclaimed The Last of Us.

The new game was announced with a chilling trailer last year at the PlayStation Experience event, and will act as a "complementary story" to the first game.

Part II will catch up with 19-year-old Ellie and the horror-filled world that she inhabits, though do not expect it to hit shelves anytime soon as Druckmann has said it will be a "ways off".

"I can't tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure," Druckmann wrote in a blog following the announcement.

"Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn't the case.

"We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special - a story that evolved into an epic journey."
