Sony has revealed when it will start showing the first Project Morpheus games from its own first-party studios.
In an interview with Digital Spy, president of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida said it is targeting E3 as when it will debut its first games. Currently being worked on by small teams, these titles are teased to have high production values.
"Because this medium is so new, there's a lot of learning and experimentation that has to be done by developers," he explained at GDC 2015.
"It's not the right approach to start with hundreds of people to work on one project without knowing what we are getting to.
"Now we have small teams iterating on different ideas to find out what mechanics work, and create games around it. That approach, I think, fits better at the launch of the system.
"That said, you've seen some of the demos that we are showing - such as The Deep or London Heist - have quite a high production value.

"We can do that as a first party, so you might see some high production value products at the launch as well. But we are not showing the games until probably E3 time. That's our target."
Sony also discussed plans to make the device social, allowing other players to interact with the virtual reality world using a television and DualShock controller. Examples of these will be shown for the first time this year.
"We have several different aspects of social that we're looking into," explained head of research and development Dr Richard Marks.
"One is that we are the social stream. So the television set that's normally connected to a PlayStation 4 displays what the person is seeing inside of VR, so that other people around them aren't just wondering what's happening - they actually can know what's happening.
Hands-on with Project Morpheus at GDC 2015: Shows plenty of promise
"Also, they can also potentially interact with the game through DualShock or something like that, so they can actually play with you in a different way than you're playing, because you're inside VR."
Yoshida added: "Some of our teams are designing games around that idea, to have multiplayer where one player is wearing a headset, and the other player is watching the TV using DualShock to interact.
"We plan to show examples later this year."
The updated Morpheus prototype was revealed at GDC, featuring an OLED screen, support for a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 100-degree field of view.
Project Morpheus will be available for consumers in the first half of 2016.
