Deus Ex: Human Defiance has been trademarked by Square Enix.

The trademark was filed on Square's behalf by attorneys Williams Powell on February 26, according to CVG.

It is believed that the as-yet-unannounced Deus Ex sequel could launch with next-generation consoles.

The news comes after Deus Ex screenwriter C Robert Cargill insisted that the upcoming movie will not be a "rehash" of the video game that inspired it.

Cargill is co-writing the screenplay with director Scott Derrickson, who believes the film could help kickstart a successful era for cyberpunk projects.
