IDW Publishing has previewed Doctor Who Special 2013 #1, the final issue of its licensing agreement.
Writer Paul Cornell and artist Jimmy Broxton have collaborated on the comic, which sees the Doctor encounter actor Matt Smith.
"In this special one-shot story celebrating the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, a strange force flings the TARDIS and the Doctor into our own universe," said IDW.
"Once here, the Doctor encounters a 10-year-old girl who happens to be a huge fan of the Doctor Who TV show.
"The Doctor grapples with being a fictional character and monsters lurking at the girl's school on the way to coming face-to-face with the actor who portrays him, Matt Smith!"
Cornell currently writes Wolverine for Marvel Comics.

He also wrote the well-received two-part story 'Human Nature'/'The Family of Blood' for Doctor Who season three.
Broxton collaborated with Cornell on DC Comics' Knight and Squire miniseries.
He has also worked on Madefire's The Engine.
IDW has been publishing Doctor Who since 2008.
Doctor Who 'The Time of the Doctor' will air on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
It will mark Smith's final episode in the starring role.
Doctor Who Special 2013 #1 will be released on December 24.
